Troubleshooting Email Problems

Below is a list of common email problems and some common fixes:

Email will not send or receive

Check to make sure your internet connection is working by going to a site like cnn.com or msn.com.

  • If it does not load, you are having internet problems. You will need to contact your internet provider (Cox, ComCast, Century Link, etc.).

Check to see if your website will load. Make sure to click through a few pages because usually your site will be cached.

  • If it does not load, your IP has probably been blocked by our server. Go to the website whatismyip.com and contact us with your IP address (looks similiar to this: XX.XXX.XX.XXX). If you have an alternate email address that is working, send a ticket to support@gowebsolutions.com with your domain name and IP address, or call us at 520-664-2324.

Email is received, but I get a outgoing mail server error

Sometimes Email Programs such as Outlook get 'stuck'.

  • Close your email program (you may get a warning message if you have items in your Outbox) and for good measure, restart your computer.

Your outgoing port might need to be changed

  • Go into your Email Accounts box (Tools > Email Accounts, Tools > Accounts or File > Info > Accounts depending on which version of Outlook you have), click the email account and the button to Change. Click the More Settings button, then the Advanced tab. The Outgoing Server Port should either be 25 or 26, change it to the one not listed. Save and close the box, then test the account. If that does not solve the problem, follow the stpes again and change it to the original port number.

You need to check the box 'My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication'

  • Follow the above steps to open your Email Accounts. Click on More Settings button. Go to the Servers tab and make sure the box 'My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication' is checked. The below radio button should turn on by default to 'Use Same Setting As Incoming Mail Server' (wording might be slightly different depending on your version). Save and close the box, then do a test.

Your IP has probably been blocked by our server

  • Go to the website whatismyip.com and contact us with your IP address (looks similiar to this: XX.XXX.XX.XXX). If you have an alternate email address that is working, send a ticket to support@gowebsolutions.com with your domain name and IP address, or call us at 520-664-2324.
